It's Uncle Dave Macon Days, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee !

Yes, folks, the wait is over. This weekend is the 29th annual Uncle Dave Macon Days in Murfreesboro, an easy 30 minute drive south of Nashville.

The festival was established in honor of Uncle Dave Macon, former resident of the Murfreesboro area, creditted with being one of the Grand Ole Opry's first superstars.Uncle Dave was a master banjo picker until his death in 1952. As such, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, in 1966.

For Uncle Dave Macon Days, the festivities begin this Friday, 7-July with music and dance competitions, and plenty of family-oriented activities.

Thousands of dollars are at stake for the competitions, which are, under U.S. House of Representatives proclamation, the National Championships of Old-Time Clogging, Old-Time Buckdancing, and Old-Time Banjo. Competitors will come from throughout the country to vie for these titles, on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday, the Heritage Award will be presented to the Queen of Bluegrass -- Rhonda Vincent -- in recognition of her dedication to the preservation of old-time music and dance. She will then be the Grand Marshall in a motorless parade down historic East Main Street, on Saturday morning.

Other events include tasty local concessions, an historic photo competition, a juried Arts and Crafts Fair, and a Sunday morning service with dinner on the grounds. Gospel singers will accompany the affair.

Uncle Dave Macon Days takes place on the grounds of Cannonsburgh Village, located at 312 S. Front Street. While you're there enjoying the festival, you can also stroll with the family through this restored village of more than 20 log cabins and discover the various historic reenactments of daily life from a by-gone era.
